PHYSICIAN (Vero Beach CBOC Medical Director)

Location: Vero Beach, FL

TITLE:† Physician (CBOC Medical Director)††

SUPERVISOR:† National Medical Director

LOCATION:† Vero Beach, Florida


Perform operational functions as outlined below for our partner, MedMark.


As the Physician and the CBOC Medical Director, you will be responsible for local implementation of the MedMark missions, visions and operational goals in partnership with the clinic administrator.† In addition you will provide and set the local standard for excellence in patient care.

  1. Patient Care
  • Provides patient care to scheduled and unscheduled patients according established Veterans Affairs guidelines.† (Maintain quality).
  • Maintain an adequate workload to provide appropriate access (productivity).
  • Oversight of any patient site emergencies.
  • Collaboration and oversight of mid level providers.† Specifically mentor and be available during clinic hours to collaborate on individual cases.
  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, including diagnosis and treatment of both chronic and acute episodic illnesses and minor injuries.
  • Compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory tests and interprets and reports test results for deviations from acceptable.
  • Prescribe medications following strict protocols established by contractual agreements.
  • Confers with patientís private physician(s) as needed.
  • Counsels patients and helps them understand their limitations and abilities.
  • Aids in performing pre-employment Health Care Worker (HCW) screening for MedMark Services at local clinic sites.
  • Examines staff after on-the-job accidents or injuries.
  • Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning and policies affecting the health of patients and staff.
  • Serves as a clinic in-service resource.
  • Oversees the continuum of care process for their patients.
  • Provides patient education specific to various disease processes.
  • Maintains patient, employee and computer confidentiality.
  • Member of the Pact Team.

  1. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Participation in local VA teleconference calls or other communications as needed.
  • Participation in monthly meetings with Chief Medial Office and VA.
  • Participate in peer review, QA and credentialing of providers.
  • Responsible for interviewing and selection of providers for employment in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Partner with the clinic administrator to meet established fiscal objectives.
  • Inputs clinical findings in the VA VISTA computer system.
  • Satisfies View alerts in the VA CPRS.
  • Participates in monthly staff meetings.
  • Reviews new policy and procedures as they are presented.
  • Participation in the Medmark Performance Improvement Process.
  • Knowledge and compliance with HIPAA policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations in addition to the standards required by JCAHO, Board of Health and OSHA.
  • Write Midlevel Narcotic scripts.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in the MedMark Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Accomplishes all VA clinical reminders.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with HIPAA policy and procedures.
  • Utilizes resources and materials in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Attends clinic staff meetings.
  • Participates in in-service training and continuing education as necessary or required to safely and effectively perform job.
  • Other duties as assigned.


1. M.D. or D.O. degree.

2. 3 + years of experience in either Family Practice or Internal Medicine.†

3. Understanding of the Department of Veteran Affairs, Military healthcare system or equivalent.

4. Must be BLS certified by the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment.

5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

6. Basic computer skills to include MS office applications.

7. Annual PPD.


  • Able to lift 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist fallen patient.
  • Able to lift 10 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board Certified
  • Florida state license
  • DEA license
  • BLS certification

Environmental Conditions Critical to Performance

An individual in the position may be exposed to:

  • Adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
  • Blood borne pathogens
  • Physical hazards (i.e. needle stick, etc.)
  • Chemical hazards
